Two years ago I was invited to play guitar at an open house for a wellness center. After my performance, the lady that owned the center came to me claiming she could hear healing tones in my music. Coming from the left-brain corporate world, I thought she was crazy. She said she wanted to give a CD of mine to a team of scientists that would be very interested in my music.
Two months later I found myself talking to a Dr. Ronald Jones PhD. This man had an amazing background. He had helped develop the MRI machine, served on a Presidential advisory board for science and had worked as a top-ranking consultant to NASA for health and wellness for astronauts! He had been studying the energy systems within the body and had been looking for music that would positively impact those systems. They wanted to see an instant increase in strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination and balance in the body when listening to the music. They also wanted to see a harmonization in the frequencies of the brain resulting in a peak performance state. Dr. Jones claimed that I was the first guitarist in the world that had these frequencies and positive effects!
I had heard of the Mozart Effect and other work by Alfred A. Tomatis; however, I was still skeptical about my music’s ability to heal. Over the two years I have collected some amazing testimonials from people claiming the benefits of listening to my music. Still there was a part of me that doubted the positive effects of the music. That is until a recent experience!
My wife and had been eagerly awaiting the birth of our second daughter. She went into labor one early morning and within two hours she gave birth to daughter. There were some complications with the delivery. My daughter had aspirated meconium. The doctor immediately took the baby and began to stick tubes down into our daughter’s lungs to get the fluid out. She was having trouble breathing and was immediately sent to ICU.
In ICU they noticed that her oxygen saturation would go down when she was sleeping and had to be put on oxygen. Because she had breathed in the meconium they recommended that she be put on antibiotics and monitored in ICU for a minimum of forty-eight hours. Needless to say my wife and I were upset and very concerned about our daughter. I decided to ask the ICU staff if it would be okay to play my music in the room and keep it playing 24/7. They were happy to oblige!
That night I sat in ICU and stayed near while my daughter slept and the music played. The next morning we received a call from the doctor telling us that we would be able to take our daughter home that afternoon. He said that he was amazed how my daughter had recovered so quickly! We were ecstatic! The next day we went to take our daughter home. The nursing staff was amazed that she was going home so early and that literally overnight her condition dramatically improved! They all wanted to get a CD and were convinced that the music had helped produce such a positive effect. Even I had to admit that I was amazed!
Two and a half weeks later baby is doing great and growing very quickly. We have started playing my music in her room 24/7 and we are amazed that she has already started to sleep eight hours at night! Any parent will tell you that that is amazing. My wife and I wholeheartedly believe that it is because of the music. Needless to say, I am a believer in the power of my music and I am so grateful to be blessed with such a gift! My wife and daughter would have to agree!
